Merging wild adventure with life changing discipleship in Canada and New Zealand.
5 Weeks -- Jan 6th - Feb 9th
A nomadic expedition around the South Island - scaling peaks & surfing the South-West Pacific whilst wrestling with faith in Christian community.
3 Months -- March 28th - June 28th
Based on a mountain on Vancouver Island we'll hit the slopes, surf the North-East Pacific and so much more as we grow as disciples.
There will be a lot going on, lots of teaching and learning, which is why you'll be assigned your own mentor who will journey alongside you for the entire way.
Whether it's in the classroom or on the side of a mountain, you'll need your notebook as we'll be covering topics ranging from foundational theology to identity to finding purpose and more.
Ultimately, your faith is your faith, which is why we have daily devotional times for you to read, pray and journal. A practice vital for growing close to the Father. We then top it off with collective worship.
Where there's no challenge, there's no growth. Whether it's stepping out of your comfort zone on our adventures, or having your character refined, challenge is in the Soul Edge DNA.
A culture of honour means you come as you are, you present who you are, and there's respect and acceptance in return. We fight to love and serve one another before ourselves.
Life is meant to be shared. Our thoughts are meant to be vetted by those around us, laughter compounds when done together. We do it all together, and learn how to do it well.
We're looking for roughly 12 students on each course, aged between 18-25 and both guys & girls. They don't have to be Bear Grylls' descendants, or aspiring theologians, but they do, by all accounts, need to be hungry for spiritual growth and have a sense of adventure!
In order to build a life-long, robust faith, you need the right investment. You need to wrestle with certain topics, adopt certain disciplines, iron-out certain beliefs and have Jesus heal our brokenness. This is the journey of discipleship that we enter into with you.
Some of our teaching topics
And so much more!
Soul Edge adventures aren't just about having the time of your life, we believe that many of these scenarios present opportunities for digging deep, thinking on your feet and putting your teammates before yourself. It's these kinds of situations that form our character and teach us valuable life lessons.
Many of our adventures are themed, meaning there's a greater message we're trying to get across which is emphasized by the nature of the activity.
Each year the adventures vary, but here's a good idea of what to expect.
After receiving so much, it's nice to shift our focus outward, and serve. We believe the best way to do mission is to build relationship and serve. So over the years we've developed close friendships with two different communities.
In Canada we take the long journey to the NW side of Vancouver Island to board our water taxis. After 30 minutes we arrive at a cluster of islands surrounded by old growth forests and Bald Eagles. Our friends and their kids have based themselves there to serve the community spiritually, practically and politically. We come alongside this family to support whatever projects they have on the go at the time. We'll run kids, youth, womens and mens events. We'll serve in the church, we'll organise social gatherings or help with simple building project. Whatever it takes to build community and serve where we can.
In New Zealand, we take a different approach. Five weeks isn't quite long enough to complete both our discipleship phase and a mission phase, so, we hand it over to you! We've formed a strong partnership with a local missionary in Vanuatu who regularly hosts mission teams. She's a wonder woman, able to give the full island-life experience amongst the tropical jungle and white sandy beaches, whilst also facilitating mission projects that are so appreciated by the locals. So although this isn't officially a Soul Edge led trip, we'll point you in the right direction and pass on everything we've learned from our experience in Vanuatu, including information on finances, hazards and cultural appropriation. This is an optional trip that you're able to add onto the end of the Nomad course. Enquire for more details.
